A helicopter evacuation to Kathmandu

Kathmandu

A Ripcord client was trekking near Everest Base Camp when he began to feel severe headaches and nausea, to the extent that his tour leaders recommended descent. His symptoms did not improve at a lower elevation, he was unable to continue, and was evacuated via helicopter to Kathmandu.

At the clinic in the Nepalese capital, he was diagnosed with a respiratory tract infection as a result of Acute Mountain Sickness, and was prescribed medication. He eventually recuperated in Kathmandu, but as a result he had lost several days of his trekking trip. In all, he incurred thousands of dollars in losses including trip interruption, medical expenses and additional airline fees.

As a Ripcord comprehensive travel insurance client, he filed a claim and Ripcord reimbursed him $7,891.
