A client’s climb is interrupted by heart problems, Ripcord reimburses $9K

A Ripcord Rescue Travel Insurance client was at Everest Base Camp when he began to experience an abnormally fast heart rate. The client descended, but unfortunately, the lower altitude didn’t decrease his heart rate, so Redpoint medically evacuated him to a clinic in Kathmandu, where doctors diagnosed him with supraventricular tachycardia. He was treated in an elevated care unit, discharged after about 24 hours, and ultimately was able to fly home to California.

As a result, he incurred medical expenses, airline changes and missed a large portion of his climbing trip. As a Ripcord comprehensive travel insurance policy holder, which covered him for the evacuation, medical expenses and trip interruption, he filed a claim and Ripcord reimbursed him the full $9,129.
