From a life boat at the bottom of the world, back to the U.S.

A man in his 60s was traveling by ship with one of the world’s leading adventure travel companies in the remote waters off Cape Horn, en route to Antarctica, when he began to feel chest pain and experience heart trouble. The tour leader contacted Redpoint Operations and requested a medical evacuation and rescue for the Ripcord Rescue Travel Insurance client.

Redpoint deployed a critical care paramedic to rendezvous with the ship just off the tip of the Antarctic Peninsula. When the ship arrived, the client and his wife were shuttled to the shore on an inflatable life boat, and Redpoint’s medical team brought them to the island’s airfield for the flight to the hospital at Punta Arenas. After the hospital cardiology team completed a series of tests, the Redpoint medical team cleared him for air travel and evacuated the Ripcord client and his wife home to the United States.

Redpoint Operations worked hand-in-hand with the travel company’s leadership and the two organizations coordinated to evacuate the client from this remote location.

“We wanted to let you know that our operations team was thoroughly impressed with the level of service, the level of knowledge and how ‘switched on’ that Ripcord personnel have been throughout the process,” the travel company shared. “This was one of the most extreme evacuation scenarios one could come across in the locations we visit and your team handled it flawlessly.”
