Her goal: $40K for cancer researchWhen Redpoint Resolutions’ Client Services Director Laurie Nahigian ran her first Boston Marathon, Celine Dion and R. Kelly topped the music charts, Shakespeare In Love won Best Picture and the Denver Broncos won the Super Bowl. A pair of decades and hundreds of thousands of charity dollars later, she is entering her 20th edition, and raising the bar for her fundraising efforts. In 1999, Laurie ran a 3:43. A few years later she set a personal best of 3:08. In the most recent years she has settled in somewhere between her beginning time and her best. “Usually talking about myself makes me uncomfortable, but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t proud. Running on Marathon Monday for the DFMC team is just what I do, and I am most proud of the amazing amount money we have raised over the years.” This year, at age 47, she is less concerned about time as she is the numbers that move the needle for her team, the Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge (DFMC). Her goal is $40,000, which would put her past the quarter-million dollar mark for fundraising since she first started running. The DFMC raises more than $5 million for critical cancer research each year. The team directs 100% of funds raised to the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research, which enables researchers at the leading edge of scientific study to achieve better cure rates and to enhance patients’ quality of life. “When my friend calls to say ‘I received good news today’ it only makes me stronger, and ageless, and confident I’ll be ready to go on April 16th, and every April until we reach the ultimate finish line: a world without cancer.” You can help Laurie reach her fundraising goal by donating here.
