Client with injured hip in remote northern Canada relieved that Ripcord had his back

‘Having that confidence was huge’

The Mackenzie Delta in the NW Territories

A Ripcord Rescue Travel Insurance client, Albert Haas, was hiking in the wilderness of the Northwest Territories when he felt a pop and a tear near his hip. He was unable to walk under his own power, and, as an orthopedic surgeon, he was concerned he may have torn an adductor muscle or tendon in his upper leg.

With spotty satellite phone coverage, he contacted Redpoint Resolutions to describe his situation and inform the staff he might ultimately need an evacuation, but was planning to wait it out a couple of days to see if the pain subsided.

“I cannot say enough about the professionalism of Redpoint’s operators on the other end,” Dr Haas said. “They were no-nonsense – all ‘Yes, sir,’ ‘No, sir’, – and had the situation under control. They told me I was covered and that they would make it happen if necessary. That let me know I was in good hands.

“They worked hard behind the scenes to locate me and put the evacuation plans in place.”

In the end, Dr. Haas was able to manage his pain, decided to continue his trip, and eventually made a full recovery after his return home.

“Had I missed part of this trip, it was comforting to know that Ripcord would have reimbursed me for it,” Dr. Haas said. “More to the point, even though I didn’t require an evacuation, knowing that Redpoint was on top of the situation — just having that confidence was huge.”
