Asthma cancels Aconcagua climb

Vinson Massif, Antarctica

A Ripcord Rescue Travel Insurance client was part of the way through a climbing trip that included two of the world’s Seven Summits, when a bout of acute asthma sent her home early.

The 49-year-old was on an itinerary that included climbs of the Vinson Massif — Antarctica’s highest point — and Mt. Aconcagua in Argentina, which at 22,841 is the tallest peak outside the Himalayas.

In Antarctica she experienced wheezing, coughing and shortness of breath and a physician confirmed that she would not be able to continue the expedition to Aconcagua. As a result, she had to forfeit the remainder of the trip and her non-refundable return flights. In all, she lost $21,224.

As a Ripcord comprehensive travel insurance policyholder, she filed a claim and Ripcord reimbursed her the full amount.
